Orgías y muerte

Sexual reproduction and death are the basic facts of life. Mutually determinant and interwoven, both are acted out in the sacrificial ritual, in the tension between renunciation and fulfillment, destruction and reparation. The stele built on a grave can take the form of a phallus. Orgies and death are close neighbors. Thus, ritual itself serves in the process by which the group perpetuates its existence through death. 

La reproducción sexual y la muerte son los hechos básicos de la vida. Determinados mútuamente y entrelazados, ambos son representados en el ritual de sacrificio, en la tensión entre renuncia y compleción, destrucción y reparación. La estela sobre una tumba puede tomar la forma de un falo. Las orgías y la muerte son vecinos muy próximos. Así, el ritual mismo sirve en el proceso por el cual el grupo perpetua su existencia a través de la muerte.
